Enjoying a close personal friendship with Vince McMahon, Shawn Michaels was kept on a WWF contract even when out "injured" for four years from 1998 to 2002. When part of the active roster he was consistently one of the very top earners in the company, Michaels has always enjoyed a privileged position on WWE cards. He has been the Wrestlemania main event on several occasions, and done very well in merchandise and DVD sales. Since retiring from WWE in 2010, Vince McMahon has retained Michaels with a reportedly unique WWE deal that still pays the star despite no official role with the company. The WWE legend now works as the host for MacMillan River Adventures on the Outdoor Channel, and is involved with various sponsorship and appearance spots. Given his long lasting main event run with WWE, his amassed wealth is in the region of $18 million.
