The 2016 edition of the Royal Rumble match draws interesting parallels to two Rumbles that took place in the 1990s. The first of these was the 1992 Rumble, the only one in history where the World Championship has been on the line. That Rumble is rightly called the greatest of all time. On that day Ric Flair entered at number three and put in the greatest individual Rumble performance of all-time, adding to his list of accolades that no performer comes close to touching. The whole match was superb from start to finish. Despite the title being on the line a number of stories were told throughout the match, making sure the viewer was constantly engaged and the live audience was engrossed throughout. It was a different time, that is for sure, but the quality of the 1992 Rumble stands up today. This year's Rumble could also go the way of the 1999 edition, arguably the worst in event history. That match was built around a similar story, one where the top guy in the company was at loggerheads with the boss. That boss is Vince McMahon of course, and he would subsequently put StoneCold into the Rumble match at number one. It wasn't billed as 'One Verses All', but the idea was the same. That Rumble ended up being terrible, mostly due to the fact that only two people mattered in the entire match. The 2016 edition of the Rumble needs to steer clear of such things and incorporate multiple stories into its booking. Simply put, the Rumble needs to be more 1992 than 1999.
