Is that really any way to treat your eldest elder statesman? Here's a quick answer: no. And then when you consider the context, it's even worse...
At least he's game, and at least he didn't have to walk that entire ramp (or suffer the indignity of being golf carted in).
The real issue for Taker is that he should be facing John Cena at Mania this year, because there's no telling whether he will be in the right sort of shape to do it at a later date. And yet now the booking has put story in such a shape that there's no easy way to organically build to that. It has to be Taker/Reigns, which means we might be heading to a final match for the Dead Man that actually gets booed.

You can almost see why WWE wanted to do it...
But for that to be the case, you have to actually ignore everything that's come before it at this point. Including Reigns' loss on the same PPV earlier in the night. At this stage, this sort of "new top dog" booking would have worked better for Braun Strowman than it did for Reigns, but you have to feel like WWE simply wouldn't acknowledge that.
Or maybe WWE just REALLY want everyone to hate Reigns?
