With two Royal Rumble matches booked for the show, it is imperative that the battle royals bookend the pay-per-view. Both are inevitably going to go long, and having them back to back at the end of the night could be a step too far for most viewers. This means one of the matches absolutely must open the show.

WWE is going to make history with the first ever women’s Royal Rumble, but it will have to do so by having the bout jerk the curtain. The match is going to be a somewhat speculative affair, and we aren’t entirely sure who will be in it at this point. There are only 21 women on the main roster after all, and that includes managers.

Despite the issues that could come out of the match, it really is the only option for opening the show. It is going to be a monumental night for women’s wrestling, so why not give them the ball straight away? It makes the most sense for the show and the bout itself.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
