WWE Royal Rumble 2019 - 10 Most Likely Winners

6. Rey Mysterio

After all these years, come SmackDown 1000, Rey Mysterio will be back in WWE for good (or at least the next 18 months, either/or). With the roster so different from the one Rey left behind, there're so many options as to who he can be programmed with that would provide new, exciting matches (at least in WWE proper).

And of course, being a returning legend, and having won the Royal Rumble back in 2006, Rey is naturally a possible winner for this coming Rumble. It would be an interesting contrast from 13 years ago, as then, Rey was the plucky underdog avenging the death of his best friend Eddie Guerrero. It remains to be seen, but it stands to reason that WWE will portray Rey as more of a grizzled veteran. Him winning the Rumble would be done as a feel-good nostalgia pop, much like Batista in 2014.

Of course, unlike Big Bang Theory Dave, Rey has never been treated as one of "the chosen ones" in the WWE hierarchy. Despite being a legend in his 40s, Rey winning wouldn't come off as a legend taking the spotlight away from the young guys, since he's so naturally lovable. And of course, if he's gonna be on SmackDown, the idea of him going up against AJ Styles or Daniel Bryan for the title at WrestleMania? How could you pass that up?
