WWE Royal Rumble 2019: 10 Things We Learned

9. There Was No 'Demon'

It turns out Finn Bálor wasn't attempting a quick swerve when he told the media he wouldn't turn up in Phoenix as 'The Demon' pre-Royal Rumble. He was telling the God's honest truth. There was no fancy-dancy makeup job, no foreboding stare and no demonic guise to speak of.

Finn was just...well, he was Finn.

That's not a bad thing, but there was a slight pang of disappointment when he strolled out in Chase Field sans tassels and creepy-crawly walk. That minor blow was softened somewhat when the match started, it turned out to be fun, Bálor bumped around for Brock and one realised his almighty 'Demon' wouldn't have to suffer a loss.

In hindsight, ditching the idea of using his alter-ego was a smart play by someone who must recognise the value his second self has. Now, Bálor can keep the 'Demon' back for WrestleMania 35, if necessary, or other matches later this year.
