WWE Royal Rumble 2019: 8 Things WWE Got Right

1. Becky's Royal Rumble Sabotage

Oh, and Bex got her shine back by replacing an injured Lana in the women's Rumble and taking it all.

The writing was smart here. Lynch didn't opportunistically ambush Lana, and so she didn't come across as a cold-hearted heel stealing someone else's thunder. Instead, the prevailing message was that Becky had saved the female Rumble. There's a big, big difference.

It's true too, she did rescue the match. Before Becky came out, the second women's Rumble was a bit lacklustre compared to last year's, and she was the direct shot in the arm it required to feel big time. People in Chase Field got a major kick out of seeing Lynch come out as a surprise replacement then stand tall at the end.

There was zero need for any swerving in this one. Folks wanted to see Lynch conquer all, and WWE (with WrestleMania looming in the distance) were only too happy to make it happen. Sometimes, the more obvious stories offer the best creative direction.
