WWE star Santos Escobar faces months on the sidelines rehabbing a torn triceps injury following his match on the recent AAA Rey de Reyes show. There, Santos lost out to El Grande Americano, El Grande Americano II and La Parka in a 20-minute 4-way bout, but he sustained an injury during the match.

Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr interfered and effectively cost Escobar the win, so Santos cut a promo on Wagner Jr afterwards and revealed that he'll be coming for his rival's AAA Latin American Title once he's able to return. During his speech, Escobar called Wagner's Jr's actions "unforgivable" - he was working, but he had to be mindful of the fact he'd just been injured too.

Santos hasn't wrestled a match on WWE television since doing the honours for Rey Fenix during the 2 May 2025 episode of SmackDown. That feels like a lifetime ago now. Since then, Escobar has been working for AAA and has also appeared on a couple of NXT house shows. For both of the latter dates, he tangled with Wagner Jr.

El Hijo himself showed up on SmackDown's 6 March edition. There, he lost a United States Title 'Open Challenge' to reigning champ Carmelo Hayes.

As reported by Fightful Select and corroborated by The Wrestling Observer, Santos will now undergo surgery on Thursday 19 March. It's unclear at time of writing exactly how long he'll be on the shelf for, but it'll be "months" at least.

Escobar will be going after Wagner Jr's title once he's back in the ring.
