WWE SummerSlam 2017 Card Fans Want (But Won’t Get)

It's possible to work Samoa Joe into the Kurt Angle mystery lover thing, right?

WWE's annual summer showpiece is just five weeks away, and so far we know little of its line-up.

Brock Lesnar will defend the Universal Championship against either Roman Reigns or Samoa Joe (spoiler: it's definitely Roman Reigns), whilst Naomi will put her SmackDown Women's title on the line against the winner of Battleground's free-for-all (spoiler: it's probably Charlotte).

Everything else, though, is wide open. We don't even know who will challenge for the WWE Championship (indeed, who will be the WWE Champion going into the event is far from clear).

And that makes it a perfect opportunity to get our hopes up with unrealistic dream cards before seeing them dashed when WWE decides to book Miz & Maryse vs Cena & Nikki Part II. You have been warned.

Disclaimer: there are no women's matches on this fantasy card, which is not to say we wouldn't want to see them but that - the female division being so thin, relative to the men's - there aren't really any match combinations that strike you as all that implausible.

8. AJ Styles Vs Shinsuke Nakamura

This is the match we've all been talking about ever since AJ Styles made his WWE bow early last year.

The Phenomenal One has already faced Nakamura in an NJPW ring, but the prospect of seeing two of wrestling's most accomplished performers slug it out under the bright lights of WWE is just irresistible.

In fact, it's unthinkable that WWE - unless they're feeling particularly cruel - won't give us this one at some point, but this year's SummerSlam may have come a little early for Nakamura - who could conceivably face a big setback with defeat against Baron Corbin at Battleground.

A more likely scenario would be AJ - should he beat Owens - defending the US title against Corbin at SummerSlam, with Nakamura tied up with another lower-mid-card feud until the autumn.
