Big E is the second member of the New Day to have appeared in two of the team's three SummerSlam matches. When teamed with Woods last year, New Day lost the SmackDown Tag Titles to The Usos.

In 2015 however, when Big E partnered with Kofi Kingston to take on The Prime Time Players, Los Matadores, and The Lucha Dragons in a fatal four way for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles, the match ended in his favour.

The match itself was largely carnage, and ended when Titus O'Neil, who didn't realise he'd been tagged out, hit Fernando with Clash of the Titus. As Big E swept O'Neil from the ring, Kofi, who had quietly tagged himself in off Titus' back, pinned Fernando for the win, taking back the titles they lost to The Prime Time Players some weeks previously.

The only SummerSlam bout Big E has had without a New Day member by his side was back when he used the Langston suffix in 2013. He and his partner AJ Lee lost to Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn after Langston suffered a Zig Zag.
