WWE SummerSlam 2021: 10 Things That Must Happen

Saturday night's WWE SummerSlam is a New Day for old revenge (and major pushes).

It's actually crazy that SummerSlam 2021 is upon us.

Think back to the pandemic, and how WWE stadium shows seemed like a lifetime away. WrestleMania 37 scratched the itch gently, but it wasn't quite that explosion from the stands that events like Royal Rumble 2020 had been (for example). Could this Saturday be that first true outpouring for wrestle-hungry fans aching to see a top-tier supershow?

Well, yes, but it'll only be memorable for the right reasons if WWE get some key decisions bang on. They've lined up 10 matches heading into pay-per-view week, and that's at least two too many - a few must be sacrificed so others shine brightly on the main show itself.

Also, and this is so, so important, SummerSlam needs to be a genesis moment for one wrestler's long-awaited main event push. The beautiful thing here is that Big E's rise makes perfect sense. He doesn't need to wait around on Roman Reigns to free up for a feud. Nah, the New Day man can seize his moment on another show.

Here's everything that must happen come SummerSlam. Pushes, title changes, comebacks and more.

10. Two Matches Get Punted To The Kickoff

Time to labour that intro point.

Eva Marie vs. Alexa Bliss and The Usos vs. Rey and Dominik Mysterio are the lame ducks on SummerSlam's card. One is TV fodder at best, and the other is a rematch that fans probably didn't need to see a second time on pay-per-view. So, in short, they should be booted to the pre-show.

There's no disgrace in that either. WWE may well run a two-hour long Kickoff this weekend, and they'll need something other than endless hype vids and roundtable banter to make those 120 mins watchable. Some supernatural shenanigans from Alexa (along with her doll Lilly) and a solid SmackDown Tag Title bout should do the trick.

Other, more important matches deserve the time this pair would steal. SummerSlam's main card doesn't need to be 87 hours long, and it doesn't need to be stuffed full of things that'd be better off on Raw or have already happened either.
