WWE Survivor Series 1998: 5 Awesome Things And 5 That Sucked

5 Awesome Things...

5. Vince McMahon Reminded Us Why He Was WWE's Greatest Heel

It can be argued that Vince McMahon is the best heel that WWE has ever had. He was incredible in the Attitude Era and this show was the perfect example of that. Vince started out the show in a wheelchair. He was selling an injury at the hands of The Undertaker and Kane after he pissed them off. That angle also led to the infamous hospital attack by Steve Austin as well as Mankind debuting Mr. Socko in the hospital. His introduction for Mankind's first round opponent was legendary too. It was "the man, the myth...Dwayne Gill." He was a career jobber that McMahon brought in as an easy opponent for Mankind, who we believed was the corporate choice to be the WWE Champion. Soon after this, Gill became "Gillberg" and a legend was born. At least in his own mind. Later in the show, McMahon broke up a pinfall, had a reunion with his son Shane, hugged his new corporate champion The Rock and told the fans that he screwed them. It was only fitting that he delivered a promo like that one year after the famous Survivor Series 1997 promo. It was fitting that at the start of the show, McMahon said that it would be a Survivor Series that we will never forget. Truer words were never spoken. It's 16 years later and people are still talking about how great this show was.
