WWE Survivor Series 2002: 5 Awesome Things And 5 That Sucked

3. Brock Lesnar Losing The WWE Title To Big Show In 5 Minutes

Brock Lesnar was a dominant WWE Champion that won the title from The Rock at SummerSlam 2002 three months earlier. Even though Rock wasn't old, he was moving away from WWE so it was a bit of a passing of the torch moment. What also happened that night is that the fans in Long Island, New York cheered Lesnar for a lot of it because they saw him as this big star. Lesnar stayed heel as he won a feud with the Undertaker over the next two months and then he faced off with Big Show at Survivor Series. It wasn't a great match as Lesnar faced off with one of few wrestlers that was bigger than him. They did an angle where Lesnar had a rib injury going into the match. It was only a five minute match. That's because WWE officials probably felt like if they went longer it would be really bad so it was one of the shortest WWE Title matches on PPV that you're going to see. For the finish, Lesnar wowed the crowd with a F5 on Big Show. He counted the pinfall. Before he got to three, Paul Heyman (Lesnar's manager) pulled the ref out of the ring. Lesnar freaked out. Show got back to his feet, hit Lesnar with a chair shot to the back and gave Lesnar a Chokeslam onto a steel chair. Show covered for the win (the ref did a bump so he didn't see the cheating) and we had a new WWE Champion. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xz6m7z_brock-lesnar-vs-big-show-wwe-championship-survivor-series-2002_sport The whole thing was done to transition the title from Lesnar to Show to Kurt Angle, who defended it against Lesnar at WrestleMania 19 in 2003. It was also done to turn Lesnar face since he got those cheers at SummerSlam. It may have seemed like the right move at the time, but this was a below average match and Lesnar always worked better as a heel.
