Dixie Carter still doesnt get it, and time is running out. Her company is not doing well. Theyre losing money, most of the biggest names have left, theyve lost their biggest supporter, and yet Dixie still refuses to believe she did anything wrong. Ever. She lives in some sort of bubble where nothing else that happens in the wrestling industry present or past is something to learn from. Shes heard of WCW I would guess, but has no idea how the story ended. If she knew what the AWA or Mid-South Wrestling were Id be absolutely shocked. Dixie recently granted an interview with Thomas Golianopoulos of Grantland, and it was frustrating to read. Looking back, I would have done a ton of things differently, she said. But I cant Monday-morning quarterback. I wont do that. You wont do that? You wont think about what you did wrong? This isnt sports where its hard to guess if another play would have gone better. This is pre-determined programming. Well what about the talent you overpaid? The crappy storylines? Isnt there anything to learn? Well for even deeper concern, check out her take on her new competition from her former employee Jeff Jarrett. When asked if she thinks about his new company she said Not at all. Not even a bit. Dont know what it is, dont understand it, and dont need to. What other business owner would be so disinterested in their competitors? If you make donuts for a living wouldnt you look into what kind of donuts the other donut shops are making? Wouldnt you taste them? Dixie wouldnt. Shed probably pretend no other donut exists. She is, in essence, doomed to make the same failures that shes been making for over 10 years now. Its like Bill Murrays character in Groundhog Day, but without ever gaining any self-awareness.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
