WWE: Tyson Kidd To Become Masked Wrestler?
It appears as though WWE is planning on turning Tyson Kidd into a masked wrestler, according to a recent report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The soon to be 34-year-old Kidd has already had a mask designed by a man who makes Lucha Libre masks, according to reports. The feeling within WWE is that Kidd is a talented wrestler, but they've marginalized the Tyson Kidd character for so long that there's nothing they can do with him past the preliminary level. The idea seems silly considering Kidd has been a part of the Total Divas show since its inception due to his wife Natalya being featured as a diva on that show. Their wedding aired in the season final of the first season. Fans have known about Kidd for many years from WWE and they also see him on Total Divas, yet WWE wants to put a mask on his face? It seems weird that they would do it to a guy that is featured on the reality show that they promote so much. From WWE's point of view, it does make sense if they feel that they've gone as far as they could with his character. However, they really didn't do much with him after he came back from his year long knee injury. Nobody is going to get over with the fans if they are never put in a position to succeed. They could have done something like pair him up with former tag partner Justin Gabriel or push him as a midcard singles wrestler. Seeing Kidd getting a push and going against somebody like Wade Barrett would have been great. Instead, we get a tired act like RVD again. There's no word on when Kidd may start as this masked character, what the name of the character would be, if he would speak under the mask (probably not) or if he would be billed as a Mexican lucha libre wrestler even though he's really Canadian. Kidd's been wrestling for nearly 20 years since he was 15 years old, so he's got plenty of experience and can work a number of different styles. Currently, Kidd has been featured on NXT a lot more. He's scheduled to face Adrian Neville in the main event of the NXT Takeover tonight (May 29). We will have results of that event here on WhatCulture.com on Friday.
