WWE Wants Former AEW Star As Its Next Big Signing (TNA News)

A former AEW and current TNA man could be WWE-bound, but is that to NXT or the main roster?

Mike Santana
AEW

WrestleVotes Radio (via Fightful Select) has followed up on rumours that reigning TNA World Champion and former AEW star Mike Santana could be WWE bound once his contract expires in July. Previous reports earlier in the week suggested that there might be interest from Triple H's league, but things seem a little more concrete now.

The website explicitly stated that "there is interest from the WWE side in acquiring" Santana once he's a free agent. Furthermore, there's at least a decent chance he'll quickly breeze through NXT's system and end up on main roster programming like Raw and SmackDown "by the end of the year".

That'd be one heck of a rapid turnaround for Mike, but likely a welcome one. Landing a lofty spot in NXT over the summer, then trading up the way to the main roster just in time for Royal Rumble-WrestleMania 43 season to start could be massive for the guy. With all due respect, that's a much bigger role to play than TNA World Champ.

WrestleVotes/Fightful also noted that Santana has strong "internal support from at least one member of the main roster". They didn't say who, but it'll surely help to have a friend who's already up there on Mondays or Fridays. Perhaps they'll vouch for Mike's suitability.

On that, Fightful's sources told them that Santana's "work and professionalism is highly regarded" within WWE. That's another good sign for him. It looks like opportunity is about to knock for someone who tired of All Elite life but rebounded well in the revamped TNA.
