WWE Week In Review - 5 Things We Learned

4. John Cena€™s New Role

During the Raw in Chicago two weeks ago, a seemingly injured John Cena limped to the ring in front of a hostile crowd and delivered an important promo. He said in no uncertain terms that any up-and-coming star would have to go through him. He€™s said this before, and his future direction was made all the more clear during this past Raw in Memphis, when he challenged Bray Wyatt to a match at Wrestlemania. Later in the show, Bray accepted. What does this mean? Well, for one, it€™s quite possible that this is now the future path the WWE has set for John Cena. Considering that Cena has main-evented the last umpteen €˜Manias, for him to be relegated to mid-card status at this year€™s event speaks volumes to his new role. It is likely Cena will help future stars develop by putting them over, beginning with Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania 30. By no means is this any indication that Cena will be forever removed from the title picture, nor is this some punishment handed down by the WWE. Quite the contrary. Cena€”like it or not€”is still the biggest draw in the company, and by a long way. But in order for the WWE to eventually survive without him, they€™ll need a cache of talented performers, which the crowd buys into. The WWE is aware of this, and as such, it€™s possible the future for Cena is mapped in this fashion. Again, expect him to break away from this mold and challenge for titles and wrestle big-name stars as well. But don€™t be surprised if Cena gets involved with quite a few young stars in the coming weeks and months following Wrestlemania.
