WWE WrestleMania 29: Why It Matters And What It Means For The Future

CM Punk vs. The Undertaker

I never have anything bad to say about the obligatory match up with the Undertaker at Wrestlemania (though considering the Hell-in-the-Cell match against The Big Boss Man at Wrestlemania 15, maybe I should be more skeptical). The Undertaker is a true veteran. He has been a household name for decades, and in that time he has managed to take what was once a run-of-the-mill over-the-top professional wrestling persona and turn it into the stuff of legend. CM Punk is a man who had been asked to do the impossible. That is, he has been asked to keep himself looking strong in front of the fans while giving all of his victories over the past year to The Shield. He carried the belt through his long streak, a streak pock-marked by an endless string of horrible gimmick matches and even worse angles. Though through all of that awfulness, in many minds he proved that he has what it takes to help carry the company. He was given the ball, and he ran with it; for good or ill. The only question we have to ask of this match is how much gas does €˜Taker have left in the tank? Is he retiring soon? Is this going the be the match where he €˜passes the torch?€™ These are questions we ask every year, and every year The Undertaker stands across the ring of the showcase of the immortals from yet another opponent; ready to put on the show-stealing match of the night.
