When Sherri debuted in the WWE in 1987 she was actually a wrestler, and a good one at that. She defeated the legendary Fabulous Moolah for the Women's championship and held onto the belt for over a year. When the Women's division was phased out in 1990, Sherri became a manager. She became the counterpoint to Miss Elizabeth, during the Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage feud. Miss Elizabeth, the conventional beauty, sided with Hulk Hogan, while Sherri, the raspy voiced tough girl, cornered with Randy Savage. She managed Savage until he lost his retirement match at WrestleMania VII. After briefly managing Ted DiBiase, she sided with the soon to be superstar, Shawn Michaels. Following him down to the ring with a mirror, so he could admire himself before the match, became one of the trademarks of Shawn Michaels "sexy boy" gimmick. Notably she was also the original singer of Shawn's iconic ring music. Sherri was one of the toughest women ever to step foot into the ring, and one of the most memorable managers outside of it.
