The NXT program from early 2010 through the middle part of 2012 took place prior to Smackdown tapings in a full arena. A lot of the segments really weren't great in terms of getting reactions from the crowd because there wasn't a lot of well established talents on the show, but they tried to mix them in once in a while. There were "rookies" that were unknowns from WWE developmental (at that time Florida Championship Wrestling) and then there were pros. Goldust served as the pro of Aksana. She was a foreigner from Lithuania that Goldust took a liking to. He ended up proposing to her when he found out she was going to get deported if she didn't get married. That's something that actually happens in real life although probably not often. It's no surprise that WWE would use it in a storyline. The wedding took place on the November 2, 2010 edition of NXT. Goldust was supported by his brother Cody Rhodes and father Dusty Rhodes. Hornswoggle served as the ring boy while Ted Dibiase Sr. served as the minister, which upset his son Ted Jr., who was in a feud with Goldust at the time. Everything went well as they both said "I do" except when it was time for the kiss. Goldust leaned in for a kiss, but she slapped him and left. It was later revealed that Aksana only married him so she could stay in the US. Goldust was left alone in the ring looking like a fool.
