WWE's 53 Wrestlers Ranked From Worst To Best

37. Curtis 'Axelmania' Axel

wwe roster

Pros:

1. Can be surprisingly entertaining on the microphone

2. Consistent wrestling ability

3. Is willing to take a crap gimmick and run with it

Cons:

1. Also capable of terrible promo work

2. Has tried and failed with several different gimmicks and directions

3. Isn’t his father

WWE have tried pretty much everything to help Joe Hennig get over with the crowd. He was part of the Nexus (when it was run by CM Punk). He was a runner-up in NXT season 2. He was renamed Curtis Axel, in memory of his father and grandfather, and was made a Paul Heyman Guy. He even won the Intercontinental Championship on Father’s Day, to remember his father. Yet none of that worked. Why not?

Maybe it’s because his promos have historically been quite bad, or maybe he just doesn’t stand out from the rest of the roster. Some have even suggested that the only reason he was given a renewed push was because he helped train The Rock for his match against John Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII.

However, the ‘Axelmania’ gimmick has been surprisingly popular these past few weeks, and during the lead-up to WrestleMania he was actually getting cheered…loudly. If WWE try and make something out of this, maybe Axel can get the ball rolling again.

Final Rating: **1/2
