WWE yesterday confirmed that Edge has undergone surgery for the torn triceps injury sustained while wrestling Randy Orton for Backlash 2020's "Greatest Wrestling Match Ever" tapings on 7 June.

The promotion issued the following statement:-

"WWE Digital has confirmed that Edge suffered a torn triceps as a result of injuries sustained during The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever. Edge has undergone successful surgery and is currently rehabbing at home.

The Rated-R Superstar faced Randy Orton in a grueling [sic] test of in-ring skills at WWE Backlash. Both competitors were pushed to the brink, but The Viper prevailed over his former friend in the highly intense match."

Fightful broke the news of Edge's injury prior to Backlash on Sunday, before the Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online clarified that he'd suffered a torn triceps. No specific timeframe has been announced but injuries like this typically keep athletes on the shelf for around eight months.

Edge was felled by Orton at Backlash, though the bout was met with widespread critical acclaim. Its conclusion was followed-up on during last night's Raw. Edge's best friend, Christian, came out of retirement to face Randy in an unsanctioned bout but was quickly put down with a punt following a Ric Flair doublecross.
