20 Best Matches From WWE's 'C' Shows
9. Val Venis Vs. Ric Flair - Sunday Night Heat
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PnXPbfqPnjsHow weird is it that Val Venis versus Ric goddamn Flair main evented an episode of Heat? In 2005?
In a way, this match is poetic. You have Val Venis, a genial Canadian dude fresh from being forced back into an embarrassing, sleazy womanizer gimmick, battling Ric Flair, who can't stop living his embarassing sleazy womanizer gimmick. One is like the Earth-2 version of the other or something.
It's after 1995, Flair doesn't bleed, and Val Venis isn't Shawn Michaels, so nothing all that fantastic happens. Still, Flair walks Venis through a thoroughly entertaining little match that feels more than a little like your local 1980's NWA affiliate champ giving vintage Naitch a run for his money.
Flair ultimately picks up a win with a once-in-a-lifetime ultimate Nature Boy combo attack: a Flair flop feint into a chop block followed by the figure four leglock. Now we're going to school, indeed.
