WWF WrestleMania 14: 10 Things We Learned

8. Owen Hart Will Not Benefit From Bret Hart€™s Controversial Departure

4 months have passed since Bret Hart€™s controversial exit from the WWF and a lot has changed in just the short time he has been gone. The €œattitude€ that he seemed to be so against has taken center stage, with the likes of DX and Stone Cold Steve Austin becoming huge stars. One thing that hasn€™t change, however, was Owen Hart€™s standing in the company, for better or worse. No, Owen Hart doesn€™t seem to be bearing the brunt of Vince McMahon€™s feelings towards Bret, but he€™s also not being given a chance to use this controversy to his benefit. Owen Hart could have built his entire career on standing up to Shawn Michaels, HHH and Vince McMahon. He could have been the hero fighting for his brother€™s honor. He could have won the Royal Rumble and went on to avenge his brother by winning the WWF Championship from Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania. Unfortunately for Hart, McMahon let ego and personal grievances get in the way of what could have been a very real, very blockbuster feud and instead gave the ball to Steve Austin (who is doing a wonderful job carrying it). Instead, Hart was relegated to being DX€™s whipping boy. He was constantly made fun of, even being called a nugget of sh*t that just wouldn€™t be flushed. That aside, WrestleMania still could have benefitted Owen, with him finally taking the European Championship from Hunter Hearst Helmsley. He didn€™t. And we don€™t imagine that he ever will.
