10 Dystopian Futures Of Comic Book Superheroes

9. Punisher: The End

X-Men Days Of Future Past
Marvel Comics

It's the end of the world, but Frank Castle's still got some punishing to do.

Being the most openly murderous of the Marvel heroes, the Punisher has been responsible for one or two apocalypses himself (see Marvel Universe vs The Punisher, or Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe, in which he single-handedly decimates the world's superhero population), but The End catches up with him after the fact, during the flaming aftermath of World War III.

This time, Frank's setting his sights a bit higher than mere drug dealers, summarily executing the politicians, generals and billionaires he deems responsible for ending the world. Oh, and his only companion too.

Done with murdering the very last people on Earth, Castle heads out into the burning, radioactive wasteland, and to his own end. Maybe here he'll finally get a little peace and quiet.
