10 Weird DC Heroes You Won't Believe Exist

4. Haunted Tank

During WWII, DC had a lot of success producing comics about American soldiers. During the 60's, they tried to continue that trend by telling war-themed stories that also mixed in the kind of sci-fi and supernatural themes that were making superhero comics popular. The results were... interesting.

The weirdest of the lot was the Haunted Tank. In a glorious mishmash of ideas, the ghost of Confederate general J.E.B Smith was sent by Alexander the Great to watch over his two namesakes, Lieutenant Jeb Stuart and the M3 Stuart tank he drove.

The General helped out Jeb and his crew by offering them cryptic hints like an old-timey racist Navi. In return, the crew honoured the general by flying a Confederate flag on their tank, a situation that became a bit awkward when an African-American joined the tank crew.

It turned out the General also wasn't that great at his job at their tank ended up frequently destroyed and replaced. For a while, they even drove a patchwork tank made up out of spare parts from a "tank graveyard".

Eventually, the crew were given a brand new M4 Sherman tank, one that came equipped with the ghost of General William T. Sherman.

I was just a mild-mannered NCTJ accredited journalist until one day I found out the truth... that I could share my nerdy ramblings with people on the internet! It's just like mumbling to myself on the train, but without all the strange looks.
