3. Matter-Eater Lad
The Legion of Super Heroes has had some pretty weird members over the years. They even have an entire team of Substitute Heroes for characters with powers too strange or useless for the main team. One hero that did make the cut for the main team though is Matter-Eater Lad.
Tenzil Kem comes from the planet Bismoll. The people of Bismoll were affected by a microbe that made their food inedible and so they evolved to be able to consume any kind of matter. And that's it, Matter-Eater Lad's only power is that he can eat absolutely anything.
Tenzil was actually a fairly early member of the Legion, but the difficult to write nature of his powers meant that he didn't appear too often. In-story it was explained that his membership had made him something of a celebrity on his home planet and he was constantly drafted into Bismoll's political system, eventually even becoming a senator.
He did once save the universe though by eating the supposedly indestructible Miracle Machine.
In later stories he's also been portrayed as a TV personality, the Legion's chef and even a government agent.
A special mention should also be given to Arm-Fall-Off-Boy, an alien with detachable limbs who was the first person to ever be rejected from the Legion.
