8 Watchmen Characters Based On Charlton Comics
3. Rorschach / The Question
Rorschach is best described as an antihero, due to his violent and sometimes extreme nature of dispensing justice. As a man, Walter Kovacs is mentally deranged, believing his expressionless mask to be his real face.
With his sanity deteriorating, Rorschach prowls the streets looking to punish those who prey on the weak. His trench coat, gloves, and fedora combination covers every inch of his body, and harkens back to the days of film noir, when detectives would walk smoke-filled alleyways, in search for clues to their next mystery. Just like those detectives, Rorschach is seen looking for clues dealing with the Comedian’s murder.
His attire doesn’t just pay tribute to old detective stories, as the main source of inspiration for Rorschach comes from The Question. The Question, aka Vic Sage, was a Charlton Comics character and investigatory journalist. Sage is constantly obsessed with conspiracy theories, a trait Moore used to make Rorschach appear psychotic. Also similar to Rorschach, the features of The Question’s face are nonexistent once he puts on his mask, which is composed of artificial skin.
With his business suit, fedora and gloves, Sage is a mystery wrapped in an enigma, one that someone like Rorschach would love to solve.
