The Umbrella Academy: 10 Biggest Changes To The Comics
6. The Commission
Somehow, despite how mysterious The Commission remained in both the comics and the show, Netflix sure did make some radical changes to their identity.
The time stream correcting organisation aren't even called The Commission in the books, being instead named the vastly more badass Temps Aeternalis, but the changes most certainly do not end there.
Even compared to the murderous lunacy of the on-screen incarnation, the comics depict a far more sadistic group, one which doesn't have cutesy, 1950s style rooms full of people using type writers (at least from what we've seen of their headquarters), but rather dark halls filled with men and women in red gas masks and suits, that repeat the mantra of their organisation as if they were a part of a cult.
It's not like the treatment of their employees encourages such dedication though, with Number Five having been forcibly plucked from time to join their ranks, and then (again forcibly), having undergone surgery that stripped him of his humanity by combining his DNA with that of several serial killers, turning him into the perfect killer.
