10 Most Tearjerking Game Of Thrones Moments

"Hold the door!"

The term “Rage Quit” was practically invented for Game Of Thrones, where viewers have suffered no end of heartache watching fan favourite characters braving an endless storm of misery and death. We’ve seen noble men and women meet horrible deaths, and complete scumbags go unpunished for their evil deeds (Ramsay, we’ve thinking of you).

So why do fans keep coming back for more of the same? Simply put, because the characters are so damn good. From the awesome-tastic Tyrion Lannister, the permanent brood face of Jon Snow or the endless misadventures of Arya. We’ve even grown to love characters like Jaime and Theon, neither of whom are exactly innocent of horrible acts.

That’s why all the death and sadness holds such weight, and Game Of Thrones is especially good at making fans weep tears of joy and anger. This list is going to take a look back over the top tear-jerking moments of the show, from quiet character scenes to – of course – heartbreaking deaths.

Get your hankies ready, this is going to be emotional.

10. Ygritte's Death

The Romeo and Juliet affair between Jon Snow and the Wildling Ygritte was destined to end badly, but it was nice to have some romance amongst the death. She was the enemy who taught him to loosen up a bit, and they shared a lovely time together in a cave; she also taught him some stuff, since he apparently didn’t know much.

Ygritte doesn’t take his eventual betrayal very well and shoots him full of arrows while he attempts to flee. She spends most of season four getting ready to finish the job, but when they finally see each other during the Castle Black battle she hesitates; Olly promptly shoots her in the back with an arrow.

The tragic lovers share a final embrace while the battle rages on, and she assures him again that he "knows nothing" before she dies. For an episode full of exciting battles and special effects, this tender moment is probably the most haunting moment of it.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
