10 Best Horror Movies Of The Decade

9. It: Chapter One (2017)

The Wailing 2
Warner Bros. Pictures

Combining all the best parts of weird and wonderful Stephen King goodness with absolutely horrifying visuals, both It movies have changed the landscape of horror as we know it.

Whether you like them or not, they commercialised the genre to the point of becoming the highest grossing horror movies ever, with the first breaking all sorts of records alongside scaring mainstream audiences silly. Pennywise the Dancing Clown has long been a staple of scary film history, but Bill Skarsgard took the legend to another dimension with his take on the shape-shifting entity from beneath the sewers.

It isn't necessarily the scariest horror movie you'll ever see, but it is one of the most finely put together. Expertly capturing the nostalgic lens of the 80s and combining it with a coming-of-age story - one that just so happens to feature a supernatural clown out to eat kids - results in an unsettling, symbolic remake that works its way both into your head and your heart.

It is as much a story that will resonate with the masses, since we've all have childhood fears, as it is a weird hellscape of personalised terror - and cemented itself as essential watching the moment Georgie's arm got torn off and sucked into a storm drain. That's how you know something means business, after all.
