10 Best Horror Movies Of The Decade

8. The Witch (2015)

The Wailing 2

Robert Eggers directorial debut is a tour-de-force of horror in just about every aspect possible. Whilst the whole Ye Olde English deal takes a moment to get over, the 17th century anxieties that play out on the edge of a forest are universally terrifying - with the threat of a witch undercutting a family's attempt to survive on their own in the wilderness. Supernatural forces collide with paranoia, and the result is an excruciating deep dive into the worst of human nature, and something else entirely...

In simpler terms, it's just a really freakin' good horror movie. Even though the truth is spelled out particularly clearly, the conviction of the characters is enough to make even the most sure of watchers waver, until the delicious ending plays out and wipes away any trace of doubt as to what has been happening the entire time.

The cast are incredible, the cinematography is captivating, and the story is one that will haunt you long after the credits roll. Forests have always been creepy, but never to quite this degree.
