10 Foreign Horror Movies You Must Watch For Halloween
7. The Eye (2002)
Asian horror is renowned internationally for its extreme scares, but the majority of these films tend to be made in Japan or Korea, so its impressive that The Eye is from Hong Kong, yet still achieved worldwide success. The story revolves around a violinist who undergoes an eye cornea transplant to restore her sight, but once her vision returns, Mun begins to see shadowy figures who seem to foretell the deaths of others. As she investigates the origins of her cornea donor, Muns visions become more and extreme, to the point where she struggles to cope and begins to question her own sanity. The Pang Brothers were originally inspired to make the film after reading a news report about a young girl who had received a corneal transplant and committed suicide soon after. The premise was strong enough to inspire two sequels directed again by the Pang Brothers, as well as both an Indian and a Hollywood remake. While these all vary in quality, the original is a powerful ghost story that uses psychological horror to create genuine scares that doesnt just rely on blood and guts.
