10 Heroic Movie Characters Who Actually Didn't Affect The Plot
6. Harry Potter - All Of His Films
For the Chosen One, Harry Potter doesn't exactly show his value throughout the film and book series that take his name. He gets through the majority of the worst trials and ordeals because other characters step in with either better intellect, greater courage or superior physical and magical prowess.
Yes, Harry's own story changes over the course of the books, and he escapes the evil clutches of his neglectful aunt and uncle, but surely if he'd gone to a normal secondary school they'd have quickly discovered that he was being abused, given the apparently spectacular idiocy and criminal neglect of his primary school in noticing anything was wrong. It's not like Harry learns defiance at Hogwarts, and he would probably have ratted out his ratfink uncle anyway.
But even more importantly, the end result for the wizarding world would have been the same had Harry not been there at all. Voldemort wouldn't have been able to find the Philosopher's Stone at the end of the first year as Harry wouldn't have been there to basically hand it to him, and even if Quirrell had managed it another way, the other Hogwarts students or the Ministry of Magic would have pulled together to take him and the Death Eaters down anyway.
Hermione basically gives Harry all the information he needs to take down Voldemort, and Ron and Neville prove themselves more than capable of taking out the Horcruxes when they are revealed. Yes, Harry would have remained a Horcrux, but Voldemort would never have regained his bodily form, since he needed Potter's blood to do so.
No matter which way you look at it, Harry being present or not being present wouldn't have changed the fact that Voldemort would have failed to take over the world.
