Arnold Schwarzenegger's hyper-violent actioner Commando is set in fictional country Val Verde, which was created by writer and producer Steven E de Souza as a stand-in for South or Central American locations. The 1985 release was the country's debut, but it has appeared in a number of films, TV shows and video games, establishing a sort of de Souza shared universe.

The producer claimed that Predator was also set there, but a change to the canon with 2010's Predators, which confirmed the events of the original movie actually happened in Guatemala.

But one link that is still firmly established is between Commando and Die Hard 2. The first movie's setting is also the country of origin of General Ramon Esperanza, the drug lord and dictator who is being extradited to the United States in Die Hard 2, who is the target of Colonel William Stuart's rescue plan.
