10 Movie Characters Whose Fates Were Left Frustratingly Unresolved

8. Ray - In Bruges

In Bruges happens to be one of the funniest movies in recent years, while also being one of the darkest as well. Colin Farrell gives one of the performances of his career, earning himself a golden globe in the process.

The movie has a simple concept. Two Irish hitmen hideout In Bruges after a botched job, waiting for instructions from their boss. The climax of the movie sees Harry ordering Ken (played by Brendan Gleeson) to kill Ray, but he refuses.

At that point, Harry comes over to Bruges to finish the job himself, Ken ends up dead and Harry accidentally shoots a dwarf actor dressed as a schoolboy he believes is a child and kills himself as payment for the crime. Your standard sort of thing. Ray, badly wounded, ends up heading to hospital.

Despite being suicidal, you learn in those final moments that Ray wants to live, but we never get the answer. The only reason it's so frustrating not knowing whether he dies or lives, is because the character is so utterly endearing, even if he accidentally killed a child whilst operating as a hitman.
