10 Movies From 2016 That Could Score 100% On Rotten Tomatoes

8. The Free State Of Jones

Release Date: May 13, 2016 The McConassaince may have taken a brief hiatus over the span of 2015 (not to mention a dip with the awful Sea of Trees), but you'd better believe that 2016 will see everybody's favourite Texan back in the saddle doing what he does best: making awesome movies. Matthew McConaughey's next film, due in May of next year, is titled The Free State of Jones - and it looks like a real doozy. Written and directed by Gary Ross, who did great work with the first Hunger Games picture back in 2012, the film tells the story of a farmer - played by McConaughey - who "leads a group of anti-slavery Confederate deserters in Jones County and turns them against the Confederacy." Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Keri Russell also star. It has a slight hint of the Oscar-bait about it, but there's also a chance that this could be a genuinely great and timely motion picture - one that could put both McConaughey and Ross at the forefront of 2017's awards season. And that'd be all right, all right, all right with us.
