10 Movies That Hated The Statue Of Liberty

1. Cloverfield (2008)

Cloverfield holds the Statue of Liberty in such disregard that we didn't even need to wait for the movie to see the statue get its comeuppance, it was in the first teaser trailer! The atmospheric one-minute spot created huge buzz around the typically secretive Bad Robot project, and once again saw the iconic statue on the receiving end of some serious physical abuse. Props go to the monster for the impressive distance that it manages to launch Lady Liberty's head through the city, but I feel sorry for those that had to reattach it whenever the time came to rebuild New York. To rub further salt into the wounds, the decapitated statue is also shown in the movie and became a prominent part of the marketing campaign. The most recent movie to destroy the iconic statue (although the torch is briefly glimpsed in last year's post-apocalyptic Oblivion), the impressive destruction of the Statue of Liberty became Cloverfield's most famous moment, and is spectacularly realised for a movie with a budget of just $25m.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
