10 Movies That Hated The Statue Of Liberty

2. Deep Impact (1998)

The summer of 1998 brought two asteroid-themed blockbusters, so it was almost a given that the Statue of Liberty would be destroyed in at least one of them. The honour fell to Mimi Leder's Deep Impact, which was overshadowed at the box office by Michael Bay's Armageddon but is just as enjoyable a movie. After failing to destroy the asteroid in space and instead splitting it into two equally deadly parts (great job guys), the two fragments are on a collision course with Earth, with the first crashing into the Atlantic and creating a massive tsunami that wipes out millions of people, and of course Lady Liberty. Not only does the impact knock the statue over completely, but the head comes clean off and lands in the streets of New York City. Sure, the second asteroid fragment was destroyed and ultimately saved the world but the Statue of Liberty's cinematic run of bad luck continued.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
