10 Reasons Bob Orci Directing Star Trek 3 Is The Dumbest Decision Ever
8. His Argument With The Fans
Bob Orci is not a man that can take or understand constructive criticism. Even the most loyal supporters of Star Trek Into Darkness will admit that the film got a lot more wrong than it got right. It sparked massive debates and Internet battles between moviegoers who argued about every detail and plot hole. Why was Khan white? Why was the Enterprise hiding underwater? Why didnt anything make sense? Bob Orci would have been wise to listen to the critics and learn from it. After all, every movie he has ever written gets criticised for the same reasons but like a passive aggressive ex, he pooh-poohed any possibility that his Star Trek films were anything but perfect. TrekMovie.com ran an article titled Star Trek is brokenHere are ideas on how to fix it. In it were some very valid points on what is needed to make Star Trek better. Bob Orci read the article and commented:
I think the article above is akin to a child acting out against his parents. Makes it tough for some to listen, but since I am a loving parent, I read these comments without anger or resentment, no matter how misguided.
If that wasnt patronising enough, he went on to dig a bigger hole for himself:
Having said that, two biggest Star Treks in a row with best reviews is hardly a description of broken. And frankly, your tone and attitude make it hard for me to listen to what might otherwise be decent notions to pursue in the future. As I love to say, there is a reason why I get to write the movies, and you dont.
Clearly upset, he then took out his anger on another fan that compared Star Trek Into Darkness with Raiders Of The Lost Ark.
STID has infinitely more social commentary than Raiders in every Universe, and I say that with Harrison Ford being a friend. You lose credibility big time when you dont honestly engage with the F**KING WRITER OF THE MOVIE ASKING YOU AN HONEST QUESTION. You prove the cliché of shi**y fans. And rude in the process. So, as Simon Pegg would say: F**K OFF!
If you wanted a master class in how to alienate the fan base of a franchise, you will find no better teacher than Bob Orci. Declaring himself the King Joffrey of Star Trek simply because he gets to write the movies and therefore he knows best, he demonstrated an ugly ego that explains why his scripts are consistently terrible. He might boast about their financial success but just because a movie does well at the box office, that doesnt mean its a perfect film. But at least we all now know Harrison ford is his friend. Bob Orci doesnt want to listen, learn or adapt and unfortunately that means Star Trek 3 will be more of the same because in Orcis eyes, there is nothing that needs fixing.
