10 Reasons Bob Orci Directing Star Trek 3 Is The Dumbest Decision Ever

7. Opportunity To Win Back Fans Is Gone

It€™s no secret that JJ Abrams' version of Star Trek has disaffected many long term fans who loved the shows and the movies from 1 to 10. While Abrams was successful at turning Star Trek into another summer blockbuster that generates box office receipts by attracting the mass audience who don€™t care about Star Trek€™s rich legacy; the people that supported the franchise for decades and spent money on the merchandise have been left divided. Some fans say that Abrams has injected new life into Star Trek after it was dead in the water. But the majority agree that Abrams has done nothing more than dumb down a franchise he never understood in the first place. Whichever side of the fence you fall on, mention JJ Abrams in any Star Trek discussion group and it turns into a massive argument between fans that used to be united with their love for the series. With Abrams gone, the opportunity was there to try again and bring back into the fold all the fans that felt their beloved franchise had been taken away from them. All it would have taken is a director who understood how to balance a good story with just the right amount of action. With the right appointment, fans would have railed behind the next film because there was hope that this time, it might turn out ok. But with Bob Orci directing, the divide will remain and continue even after the film has been released.
