10 Reasons Bob Orci Directing Star Trek 3 Is The Dumbest Decision Ever

9. There Were Better Choices

Joe Cornish A number of different directors were in the running to helm Star Trek 3. As soon as JJ Abrams left to take on Star Wars Episode VII, the rumour mill began to churn out possible replacements. Jon Chu was the first name branded as a possible replacement, but the director of €˜Justin Bieber: Never Say Never€™ and €˜G.I. Joe: Retaliation€™ might have the necessary credentials to put together a fairly decent action scene but it was unclear if he could marry that with a compelling story. A much better name in the running was Joe Cornish. He not only co-wrote Spielberg€™s €˜The Adventures Of Tintin€™ and the upcoming Edgar Wright directed €˜Ant Man€™ movie from Marvel, he also proved he could direct with the well received €˜Attack The Block,€™ a film that managed to mix good storytelling and action with social commentary, which is everything a good Star Trek adventure needs. You should also check out 'The Adam and Joe Show,' a mid 90's comedy show he presented with Adam Buxton. Even though Joe Cornish would have struggled to escape the executive producer tentacles of JJ Abrams, he was just the kind of person needed to show the fans that Star Trek 3 has a running chance to be better than €˜Into Darkness.€™ One criticism levied at Joe Cornish was that he lacked experience to handle a big budget movie like Star Trek 3, but strangely, he has far more experience than Bob Orci.
