So here…we…go… A film series finale built up to be synonymous with the end of worthwhile existence as we know it (a quick tour of any Batman themed online conversation will have you believe that once we watch this, the state of how largely our minds will be blown will leave us unable for any cognitive thought let alone cleaning up the mess we will make in our pants the first time Bane punches someone).
This film follows the lead of The Avengers. Prometheus (which I also said could be the best film of 2012 and then went on to say it was the best sci-fi film in years) and The Amazing Spider-Man which will feature a delightfully indie soundtrack and Andrew Garfield wearing spandex…So it’s got something to compete with.
So, not to add any more hype to the proverbial melting pot of bubbling anticipation and fanboyism currently being surfed by Warner Bros and Christopher Nolan’s ego, I present to you 10 reasons why The Dark Knight Rises will be the best film of 2012.
1. Christian Bale’s Final Turn as Batman
Christian Bale is a divisive figure, be it his gravelly Batman voice or his tendency to verbally abuse film crew, he can annoy people. However if you remove his gravelly sounding, needlessly homicidal tendencies then it is easy to accept that he has rocked as Batman.
He’s helped make a character that transcends the suit and is an individual in himself, where Michael Keaton as Batman was overshadowed by the supporting cast and his inability to carve a character out of the Cape and Leather.
The fact he’s probably the most individual, recognisable Batman beyond Adam West’s ultra-camp farce, raises hope for his turn in this, his last outing in a Batman movie (it remains to be seen whether he will appear in a Justice League film). With ideas of death, coming to terms with one’s mortality and seeing the destruction of everything you’ve built apparently rife within this Batman instalment, it’s going to be material ripe for Christian Bale, a very talented actor, to grab and leave a lasting impression on this incarnation of Batman.

I don’t think TDK was really that emotionally hollow, Aaron Eckharts performance proved that I feel.
Great article and I agree with pretty much everything on here. 32 More days until the story comes comes to an end.
Great article but Hans Zimmer is one of the most over rated composers working right now. So much of his work is copy pasted ideas from older films. Watch The Rock, then Gladiator, then Pirates of the Caribbean (which he contributed themes for the first and composed the sequels) and you hear the same stuff over and over again with little variation. BLAH.
I did notice that actually, I watched Gladiator the other day and was actually startled by how similar it sounded to PotC. Still, his Batman scores do kick ass. But I still think Michael Giacchino is the best.
Maurice Jarre is the best motion picture composer of all time imo.
From:
Lawrance Of Arabia
Doctor Zhivago
To:
A Passage To India
Gorillas In The Mist
Ghost
This movie will take it all this year and will be the best Batman movie of all time.
The Joseph Gordon Levitt being the next Batman is an invalid point. Batman doesn’t want to inspire more vigilantes. That point was addressed in TDK. When Bruce Wayne said he wanted to inspire people he was talking about ACCOUNTABLE ELECTED OFFICIALS. Batman in Nolan’s universe is something personally link to Bruce Wayne. His motivation isn’t only what Batman stands for but also psychological. Bruce Wayne needs Batman to work out his emotional issues. JGL is NOT the next Batman.
I am sorry but this all sounds like wishful thinking. I am sure many fans would hope that all of this will be true about the movie. But it is a lot to hope for and expect. I am not expecting it to be better than TDK, I don’t expect it to be the best batman movie ever. I think it will be better than some but not the best. It will take a lot for Bane to be more interesting than Joker. And the still shots of the fighting between Bat and Bane don’t even look exciting. Also army of cops vs army of thugs is not going to be exciting because we will not know who any of them are, and if and army of cops and robbers are shooting it out, this is going to require a real blood bath. I think it will try and take on to much and leave everyone wishing they had focused on one or two things. I could be wrong, but I just don’t expect it to be the best movie, and who knows maybe it will be better than I think, and blow me away.
I know no-one will read this but months later HOW WRONG WERE ALL ALL THESE POINTS!!!!
This article proved right, it was the best film of 2012, and both critics and fans loved it
