You can see why this would be tempting. Richard Donners The Goonies has everything a set of young likeable characters, a fun sense of adventure, and a memorable name thats endured for years in our memories already. Indeed, if The Goonies had been made more recently, it probably would have become a franchise and spawned a whole series of follow-ups. Even now, talk of sequel or reboot to the original rears its head every few years. However, what happened in 1985 is best left in 1985. They could never find a cast to match the original Goonies, and political correctness would probably mean that Sloth would be written out. With cinema the way it is now, theyd probably stuff a Goonies reboot with CGI, as well. No thanks. Additionally, at the age of 85, Richard Donner is unlikely to direct this one himself, and theres no one else who stands a chance of remaking his family adventure classic. Leave well alone, Hollywood, and think carefully before green-lighting that rumoured sequel, as well.
