10 Superheroes Who Should Get A Movie Before Wonder Woman
It seems like every movie or comic book website you go to, there are people up-in-arms over the fact that there hasn't been a Wonder Woman movie yet amidst the superhero movie boom of the past two decades. The announcement that Wonder Woman will appear in the Man of Steel sequel, only served to fan the flames. "Why is she a cameo in another Superman movie? Why doesn't she get her own solo film?" In some cases these complaints come from hardcore comic book fans who see Wonder Woman as one of DC Comic's "Big Three" (along with Superman and Batman). More often than not, however, it's casual fans who simply have a vague memory of Wonder Woman from their childhood, or feminists who see WW as the only option for a strong female drive superhero movie. Wonder Woman is far from the only option for a female hero though; in fact, she isn't even one of the top 5 female characters who would be best suited for their own feature. She certainly isn't amongst the most deserving characters when you broaden the criteria to include male and female characters. The problem with Wonder Woman is that she is a truly bizarre character. An Amazon (of the immortal Amazons from Greek mythology) from the 'lost island' of Themyscira, her vast powers include superhuman strength, superhuman speed, invulnerability, and flight, she is essentially, just a female version of Superman. One thing that distinguishes her from the Man of Steel is her unique arsenal: her go-to weapon is a golden lasso which compels anyone whom it binds to speak only the truth, she wears virtually indestructible Amazonian bracelets, with which she can deflect attacks, like bullets or lasers, and pilots an invisible jet. She's even been known to remove her tiara from her head, and use it as a projectile against her enemies. Speaking of her tiara, her outfit is as ridiculous as her gadgets: a red and gold bustier, with blue and white star panties (resembling a part of the American flag). Bizarre weapons and costume aside, Wonder Woman is also saddled with a confusing and hard to explain origin (she's related to the Gods of ancient Greek legend). It's easy to understand why WB/DC has had reservations in trying to pull off of reasonable WW movie. Even geek-God, and director of the Avengers, Joss Whedon, who was briefly attached to a WW project, has admitted "She's a tough nut to crack." Still not convinced that she should be the next breakout superhero? Keep reading for a list of 10 superheroes who should get their own movie before Wonder Woman, and why...
