2. Hattori Hanzo Swords

kill-bill-vol-2-thurman-inspecting-a-hattori-hanzo-blade Featured in the Kill Bill series, the Hattori Hanzo sword, crafted by the man himself the finest sword smith in Japan, is the deadliest weapon in the world. In the hands of the right person, if one would encounter God while holding a Hattori Hanzo sword, God would be cut. That is one hell of a guarantee to stand behind. The Bride (Uma Thurman) has Hanzo come out of a 28 year seclusion to craft her one more sword, his finest work, so she can finally Kill Bill. Tranantino creates such a mythos surrounding the Hanzo sword and the work that goes into one that when we discover in Kill Bill Vol. 2 that former assassin Budd (Michael Madsen) pawned his Hanzo sword in El Paso for $250, we can't help but cringe a little. Of course, the sword used in the Kill Bill saga by The Bride definetly gets some mileage on it, and sometimes needs to be seen to be believed. At the climax of the duel between The Bride and O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu), O-Ren shows disbelief that Hanzo made a sword just for The Bride. To prove that he did indeed spend a month crafting her this magnificent piece of steel The Bride cleanly lops off a part of O-Ren's head with the blade, to O-Ren's surprise she reacts simply with prophetic last words: "That really was a Hattori Hanzo sword." Now that is the sign of fine craftsmanship.
