6. Slapping A Woman Around - The Man With The Golden Gun
Bond threatening women with violence is a rarity in the franchise but its never pleasant when it happens. Probably the most distasteful moment is in The Man With The Golden Gun where he slaps around Scaramangas mistress Andrea. When shes unwilling to cooperate he responses with violence and pins her to the bed, twisting her arm and threatening to break it. Her face is twisted in agony as he repeats his questions and slaps her a few times to drive his point home. Of course they later end up sleeping together. In of the sillier movies from the Roger Moore era (and remember, he made Octopussy) a scene of unsettling physical violence like this one sticks is a jarring tonal shift. Andrea is clearly terrified and in pain but Bond keeps pushing till he gets what he wants. Underlining his coldness further is that when Andrea is later killed for helping him he barely cocks an eyebrow. And Roger Moore loved to cock his eyebrows.
