13 Hollywood Stars Who Voiced Favourite Studio Ghibli Characters

7. Christian Bale - Howl's Moving Castle

Based on Diana Wynne Jones€™ brilliant book of the same name, Howl€™s Moving Castle tops many people€™s list of Studio Ghibli films. The title role was given to Oscar winner Christian Bale, who brought the grit of his Batman and added a heavy dose of angst to create Howl, an extremely powerful, extremely temperamental wizard who lives in a giant mechanical castle. The film was originally set to be headed by Digimon director Mamoru Hosoda, though Miyazaki came out of one of his many retirements to take over the project when Hosoda dropped out. Miyazaki worked his magic and the film was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 78th Academy Awards, but interestingly lost out to Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. And by interestingly, I mean scandalously.
