13 Hollywood Stars Who Voiced Favourite Studio Ghibli Characters

8. Anne Hathaway - The Cat Returns

Critically acclaimed Akira animator Hiroyuki Morita took the reins for The Cat Returns in 2002, the first Studio Ghibli film to be directed by someone other than co-founders Hiyao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Anne Hathaway was chosen by Buena Vista to voice the part of Haru in the 2005 English language version, a ditzy high school student who finds herself thrown into a kingdom of cats after she saves a feline prince from being flattened by a truck. The Cat Returns is actually a spin-off of Whisper of the Heart, a romantic drama written by Miyazaki in 1995 and directed by rising anime star Yoshifumi Kondo. It was to be the first and last film he would direct for Studio Ghibli after he sadly passed away at the age of 47. He had been touted as the long term successor to Miyazaki and Takahata.
