15 Actors Who Stupidly Turned Down Billion Dollar Movies

14. Tim Roth - Harry Potter

Though it might seem that the part of duplicitous Potions Master Severus Snape was written specifically for Alan Rickman (so good was his performance), he wasn't the only one in the running to play Lily Potter's obsessive wannabe boyfriend.

Quentin Tarantino favourite Tim Roth was the number one choice for the role, but he turned it down because - in his own words - he "wasn’t ready to be on a lunch box". He doesn't regret the decision and says the right man got the job, but you have to wonder if he's as happy now to have missed out on such a definitive role.

What He Made Instead

Planet Of The Apes. Ouch. It's not the worst film ever, but it's remembered far more for its terrible decisions and the head-scratching ending than for any performances. Which is a shame, because Roth is actually good in it.
